This was in response to KwadeTweeling on Minds.com. Minds is one of the alternatives I'm testing to replace Google Plus. Anyway, it was a longer response so I figured it may be worth sharing here.
Regarding my quote "too many failures in the scientific community".
My experiences of G+ were very different than some I've seen described. So different that I had to wonder how these people were using it.
I look at the shit that happens around the world and am, for the most part, numbed to it.
I live in New Zealand. It's a tiny little bit of not quite paradise at the arse end of the planet that feels lucky if we get included on maps of the fucking world.
All this shit... It happens to "other people" that are "a long way away". It happens in countries that are fucked up due to their own internal issues. Issues that spill over into other areas and other countries but, for the most part, issues that they have a had in in one way or another.
This morning a hand written note was posted next to the trespass notice in the door at 178 Victoria Street. What Julia-anne Daysh and Cho Yam Chan don't see to understand is that the damage was already done. They had illegally evicted their tenants. They had killed a local business. They had screwed over Anton and Nina, the other staff, local artists and local breweries.
We finally have permission to go in and get the property that Cho Yam Chan and Julie-anne Daysh have been illegally holding since the illegal trespass notice was posted. We're going in next Wednesday.
Cho Yam Chan and Julie-anne Daysh are the directors of Camjec Commercial Ltd. They are the owners of the building that PhotonFlux currently runs in. This morning I was on my way to work and I found this on the door at PhotonFlux. I sent a copy of it to Nina and Anton, the owners of PhotonFlux, and it was the first they had heard of it.
A co-worker was telling us about something his kindergarten aged kid said a few days back;
Co-Worker: You have to eat your dinner before you have pudding.
Co-workers Son: No!
CW: Then you can go to your room and think about that.
CWS scowls, heads to his room, stops and looks at CW.
CWS: You're Donald Trump!
Polio has not been eradicated because it still occurs in third world countries even though it does not occur in the US.

Science and the rest of the world use words slightly differently.
Just spent a few days with a new client at the University of Queensland getting to know the project and how they do things. They appear to do everything right. Everything. I've hardly started on the project and I'm already wondering how to get the contract extended.
